Travel
If you’re driving into Mexico, we highly recommend getting Global Entry—it’ll save you a lot of time on the way back. Start the process early, as it can sometimes take a while to complete.
Coming from Northern California
For easy travel we would fly into the San Diego airport then rent a car. We know the Tijuana border is closer but we recommend the Tecate border to arrive at Bruma. To avoid any traffic at the border on your way back you can fly into Tijuana and rent a car from there.
Coming from Los Angeles
It's a four-hour drive door to door, as long as you’re outside peak traffic times. We recommend taking the scenic route through the Tecate border. Once you’re through town, you’ll enjoy a beautiful one-hour drive before arriving at Bruma.
Coming from Other Areas
We suggest flying into either San Diego or Tijuana. If you choose Tijuana, you can rent a car or hire a driver, though flights typically connect through Phoenix. For San Diego arrivals, we recommend renting a car and driving down through the Tecate border. Flying directly in and out of Mexico can significantly cut down on travel time, as the return border crossing can be unpredictable and might make catching flights tricky.
Coming back
For getting home we recommend you have Global Entry to use the Sentri Lanes for a quick return at the Tijuana border. Please note you can only use the Global Entry with your own vehicle, so make to register your car to your Global Entry account and everyone in your vehicle needs to have Global Entry
If you do not have Global Entry we recommend returning through either border (Tecate or Tijuana)
and monitor the border wait times (link below). Sunday afternoon/evenings are the longest with shorter times early Monday morning.
Is it Safe to Drive my Own Car?
Absolutely! We’ve taken our Land Rover there several times with no issues. The Valley is very safe, and having a car can be helpful since there are no Ubers and the property is expansive.
Be sure to purchase Mexican car insurance before leaving the country—it’s quick and easy to do.
If you have Global Entry and plan to drive, make sure everyone in the car also has Global Entry, and don’t forget to register your vehicle.
